Effectively Promote Green Living

Green living is a lifestyle that people are going to need to adopt if we want to be able to maintain and improve our standards of living. If society does not adopt the green living lifestyle, the consequences are unclear but frightening. I never have been one push my beliefs. Promoting the benefits of green living, opposed to pushing it at people is a much more effective communication strategy.

Think about the last time someone tried to impose their point of view on you… Now try to remember how you reacted. Chances are that you got your back up in a hurry. So if we want to effectively promote green living, let’s not get peoples backs up.

The reality is that the green living lifestyle has other benefits above and beyond reducing ones carbon footprint. When promoting this lifestyle; focus on the positive benefits, and don’t take the doom and gloom approach. People are much more likely to make change towards something that will give them a direct benefit, as opposed to changing their ways to support a major movement that they feel they are a very small part of. Below are some good talking/writing points for when the green living lifestyle is on the table.

Green Living Saves You Money

Considering the way the global economy has been going lately, saving money on energy and needless products we purchase couldn’t come at a better time.

Green Living is Good For the Job Market

We are currently dependent on non-renewable energy and products. By supporting companies that create and use green technologies and products you are helping create a market for them. Green jobs that are carbon neutral are much more sustainable over the long term. Countries that are fastest to create these jobs ultimately are going to be the most competitive in the world market.

Green Living is Good For Your Health

This really isn’t rocket science, but reducing the amount of chemicals and toxic materials around you by using natural products will have positive long term health benefits. Eating more natural local foods has been shown to help people lose weight, and remain healthier. A great example of this was the 100 mile diet.

Now imagine through a conversation that someone told you that you could save money, live in a more vibrant economy, and live a more healthy life. I would hope that would sound appealing to most, because that is what the green living lifestyle can do for you.

everyone of your points is right on. The challenge is that too many Americans are pig headed and fight against their own interest. Green living will most likely come through govt legislation such as climate legislation or insurance incentives to be healthier.

Small changes would make a world of differences

#1. Bring reusable bags with you every time you shop anywhere

#2 Eat less beef

#3 Buy local and buy organic whenver possible

#4 vote democratic. GOP has little regard for the environment.

The documentary "Food Inc" is a real eye opener. On point #4 I would like to add that there is going to be a major battle with special interest groups related to these non-sustainable industries ahead. Politicians tied to these special interest groups is one major obstacle the green movement needs to overcome. Cast your votes wisely :)

Reusable bags make a ton of sense. I'm shocked that more grocery stores don't push them. It's a great way for them to make some extra money and do a good thing.

When you live underground and live off of solar panels and reclaimed water, we will follow. and when Gore and his exwife move out of their 8 million dollar home with their fleet of SUVs, I'll take another look at it!

American,

it's not about one person...it's about everyone just making small changes. You and I agree that foreign oil is bad for our economy, bad for national security, etc.

Why not have every american make small changes that reduce the amount of foreign oil we need.

Forget 1 person, think bigger.
